Four Mistakes to Avoid to Preserve the Beauty and Functionality of Your Quartz Countertops

A lot of homeowners undertake a kitchen renovation to improve the overall appearance and value of their homes.  Most renovation projects are aimed at replacing kitchen work surfaces.

For many homeowners, comptoir quartz Granite au Sommet is a great option. Engineered quartz slabs are available in various options and attract homeowners due to their durability and minimal maintenance requirements. Quartz countertops are durable and visually appealing. If you want to invest in these countertops, you must avoid making mistakes that can ruin them. These include the following:

Not Removing Spills Right Away

Letting any type of spill sit on the countertop, especially acidic liquids such as vinegar and wine, for too long can lead to stains. Often, quartz is marketed to be quite resistant to stains. But remember that quartz is not fully stain-proof. To prevent stains, ensure they do not occur in the first place. But if you spill something, clean it up right away with a soft dishcloth, and warm soapy water.

Not Using the Right Cleaning Agent

When you clean up spills, ensure you use only cleaning agents recommended for quartz. Do not use alkaline and acidic cleaning agents as they can cause the quartz and resin to break away and cause long-term surface damage. Acidic cleaning agents like lime, vinegar, and lemon can erode the surface sealant over time, making the surface susceptible to stains. To keep your quartz countertops clean and stunning, mix dish soaps, antibacterial soaps, or hand soaps with water and use the mixture as your cleaning agent.

Scrubbing the Surface Using Abrasive Brightening Pads

Do use abrasive cleaning pads for wiping your kitchen countertops because this could cause scratches on them.  Although these scratches might be too tiny to be noticeable at first, they can cause the countertops to lose their shine and luster.

Instead, use a microfiber cloth or scouring pads for cleaning the surfaces. Experts recommend such cleaning tools because they are soft, do not leave water marks behind, and are highly absorbent.

Putting Hot Pans Directly on the Surface

Although quartz can resist heat, it is not immune to it. It may not withstand over 300 degrees F temperature. So, avoid placing hot pans or pans directly on quartz countertops. In general, discoloration because of heat damage cannot be reversed. And you must replace the entire slab of stone to eliminate the damage. In addition, extreme temperature changes can cause the quartz slab to crack. So, you should use cooking pads or trivets as a barrier between a hot item and the surface.
