Home Remedies to Keep Ants At Bay!

If you get to see one ant on your premises, there will likely be thousands nearby. It will not bother you much when you are outdoor. However, if there is an ant infestation in your home, you will have to solve it first. 

Ants can carry harmful bacteria with them. These bacterias can transmit diseases or infections. There are many home remedies to remove ants away from your home. You may also need to try professional pest control services if you want to eliminate the problem with a permanent solution. 

Home remedies to keep ants away from your house

Silicon dioxide (Diatomaceous earth)

Diatomaceous earth is a form of silica made from fossilized remains of diatoms (plankton organisms). Diatomaceous earth is not a poison, but it absorbs the oil in the skeleton of ants and other bugs and dries them out. It is an irritant, so avoid breathing or using it on your skin. Yow will get diatomaceous earth in-store or online websites. Use it as mentioned on the package, or sprinkle the powder when you see ants. 

Liquid detergent and glass cleaner

Ants walk by, leaving a scented residue behind, which acts as a map. This process will remove the residual scent of the ants and prevent re-entering your home. Here is how you can do it.

  • Take a spray bottle and mix the liquid detergent and glass cleaning spray. 
  • When you see ants spray on the area.
  • Wipe down the area where sprayed but keep a light residue.
  • Repeat the steps above.

Red pepper or ground black

Red pepper or ground black is a natural ant repellant, as the insect finds the smell irritating. Sprinkle the areas where ants are observed.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil has natural ant repellant properties. To use this method, follow the steps mentioned below.

  • Take a spray bottle and mix 5 to 10 drops of tea tree oil with 2 cups of water.
  • Whenever you see ants, spray on them. You can also use cotton balls and soak them in the mixture, placing them in the corner of your home. 

White vinegar

White vinegar is always available in any grocery store, and it is a cheap but effective way to kill the ants at home. Make a 1-1 vinegar/ water mixture and clean the hard surfaces, tabletops, corners of your home, etc., whenever you see ants spray on them or wipe them with a towel soaked in the solution.
